The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday November 28, 2001 - B3 ` T IS T HE SEASON ______________________ i______________________ UNICEF cards on sale at Oakville Place UNICEF Canada's 2001 cards and gifts are, once again, available at Oakville Place. This year, the colourful collection of UNICEF quality cards (priced from $12.50 to $16) includes works by Canadian artists Terry Ananny, Gilles Bedard, Marcel Dargis, Vladimir Horik, Claude Langevin, Katerina Mertikas, Richard Savoie, and St-Gilles. The artistry of artists from Canada includes Clarence Gagnon, Lawren S. Harris and Albert Henry Robinson. And, of course, there are classic rendi tions by the likes of Andy Warhol and Van Gogh. One of Canada's best sell ers for UNICEF is artist Katerina Mertikas of Ottawa. Her highly stylized acrylic art depicts the joyful, fleeting moments of children enjoying their playful days. The 2001 UNICEF Christmas card cre ated by Mertikas typifies her popular work. Titled `Snow to Play In,' it shows children skating on a pond and tobogganing down a hill -- all within a pretty vil lage scene. This is the tenth card she has created for UNICEF. Although UNICEF is syn onymous with Christmas cards, UNICEF gifts are gain ing recognition as a smart way to enjoy quality seasonal shopping with a bonus: the wide range of gift items from $10 to $40. Shoppers can choose from UNICEF diaries, books, gift-wrap, T-shirts, mugs, stationery, CD-ROMs, games, wallets, backpacks, jigsaws, and teddy bears.
