Oakville-based ILC Foundation part of national `patient-oriented' research The ILC Charitable Foundation (Improving the Lives of Children and Families with Chronic Pain) is taking part in a new Canadian network that will be pioneering developments in patientoriented health care for chronic pain research and care. Dr. Norm Buckley, Dr. Allen Finley and other members of the ILC medical advisory committee are involved with the Chronic Pain Network, "a national collaboration project that will see patients work with researchers, health-care professionals, educators and government policy advisers to increase care access for chronic pain sufferers and speed up the translation of the most recent research to the reality of care," stated a media release. Federal Minister of Health Dr. Jane Philpott recently announced $12.5 million in funding for the Chronic Pain Network. The grant was one of five chronic disease networks announced under Canada's Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR), which will be managed by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research. "Chronic pain is a child and family issue that affects people of all ages and children and youth are not spared," said Sandy Smeenk, co-founder and executive director of the ILC Charitable Foundation. "The outcomes of this work has the ability to provide a profound impact on healthcare systems, medical education and knowledge transfer among all stakeholders including policy advisers and decision makers, and most importantly, in giving hope to people with pain across Canada that otherwise suffer in silence." The Chronic Pain Network is led by Buckley, professor and chair of anesthesia for McMaster University's Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine and scientific director of the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Pain Research and Care. "Although Canada is recognized as a world leader in pain research, the investment in pain research has been the lowest of any developed country. We will be changing that, for the benefit of Canadians," said Buckley. Why Do Oakville Families Trust Us with All Their Dental Needs? CosmetiC & Family Dentistry · implants invisalign · Dentures...
