Knoll said residents had mixed reactions to the open house. "There were some residents who were disappointed it wasn't more of a public meeting format where residents could get up and express their concerns publicly. There was some frustration about that," he said. "Beyond that, I think people went away with the information they were looking for. They got some updates on the GTAA Noise Mitigation Initiatives, which I think was useful." Knoll emphasized a lot is happening on the noise mitigation front and there is reason for some optimism. "NAV CANADA has heard us loud and clear and are investigating various noise mitigation initiatives. What impact they will have is not known yet, but up until a year ago, they were basically operating with their heads in the sand," said Knoll. "Now, they are at least listening to us and actively engaged trying to find some solutions." Knoll called on residents to continue to make Residents want to be heard their voices heard on airplane noise. He noted NAV CANADA only received nine complaints from Oakville in 2013 and 16 complaints in 2014. Knoll said this total grew to 3,470 in 2015 after the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Aircraft Traffic and Noise encouraged residents to direct their concerns to the proper outlet. The Ward 5 councillor also pointed out the municipality has no legal standing to make the GTAA or NAV CANADA do anything, stating at the end of the day, this is a federal issue. Damoff said she, Oliver and a number of impacted Toronto MPs met with the GTAA and NAV CANADA on Wednesday to discuss the airplane noise issue. She and Oliver also plan to meet with Minister of Transportation Marc Garneau next week to talk about the matter. "At this point, I don't have anything specific to report, but there is a group beyond John Oliver and myself who are pushing for more accountability to be able to deal with the airplane noise," said Damoff. The next CENAC meeting will take place Wednesday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the GTAA Administrative Building at 3111 Convair Dr., Toronto, in Pearson Boardrooms A&B. ® Ultimate Drivers "Driver Training That Makes a Difference" SIGN UP ONLINE Program www.ultimatedrivers.ca For Reinstating Driver's License Prepares you for G2 or G License Defensive Driving Certificate Minimizes Road Test Time and Qualifies for Maximum Insurance Discount Minimizes Road Test Time, Qualifies for Maximum Insurance Discount and Teaches You Emergency Skills Driver Retraining Program Complete Refresher Program Helps Reviewing Your Driving Habits for Test ON OUR BEGINNER DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM.
