www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, April 15, 2016 | 26 Funds support areas of need identified in Vital Signs continued from p.8 school. We have seen the commitment and passion of the administration and teachers at the local schools and are confident that we can work together to create an experience that will help the students develop, grow and get on track with their education." Community Living Oakville and St. Luke's Anglican Church received $20,000 for Seniors for Seniors. The project is intended to engage seniors living in north Oakville in creating peer relationships with other seniors and assist with issues of senior isolation, loneliness and mental health. Participants will be able to plan and organize all the programs and funding will be used to cover the cost of a recreation therapist, food, transportation, training, and seminars/ entertainment. A $24,500 grant was given to Food for Life, Feeding Halton, Food4Kids and Community Development Halton for its Bridging the Equity Gap through Innovative Food Programs and Building Collaboration and Capacity project. Working in a three-stage process, the project will focus on developing programs to address the unique needs of the working poor and bringing greater alignment. KSM, the Sanctuary and Christians Against Poverty (CAP) received $11,000 for its Community Debt Centre program. Organizers said it is the first of its kind in Oakville and will assist in transitioning families facing financial insecurity to sustainable budgeting. "We work with people every day that are in need and struggling to provide for themselves and their families," said O'Neill. "Often, they are under a burden of debt and they just don't have the know-how they need to move forward. The willingness of the Sanctuary at Kerr Village to be a lead church and to provide volunteers that will come alongside people, and work with them is fantastic," he continued. "The knowledge, skills and tools that CAP provides are a tremendous value and critical to helping our clients get to a healthier more sustainable situation."
