To earn their berth in the finals at M aple L eaf Gardens, Oakville dis posed o f teams from Guelph, St. Catharines, Brantford, Erindale and Oakville. The Lum berjacks outscored the opposition 46-4 in six games and a big reason was strong goalkeeping by Calvin Wain who earned three shutouts. Leading goal scorers were Schmeer with 10 and Black with nine. Behind the bench are coach Rin Dunn, assistant coaches Mike Brown and Keith Black and trainer Charlie Charron. MINOR PEEWEE Next up, in the minor peewee divi sion, and playing the 2:15 p.m. game, were the Red L obster V ikings, coached by Claude Marchessault. PEEW EE DIVISION The final game o f the day, in the peewee division at 3:30 p.m., pro duced another Oakville win with the Old Piston Hound Dogs defeating Oakridges 2-1. It was a close game all-around, and Oakville had a nailbiting final 1:53 in which they had to play a man short. Shane Robertson scored the first goal, assisted by S cott Fisher. Oakridges tied it up and then Jack Tripp scored the winning goal, assist ed by Robertson. That the Old Pistons were able to hold off the Oakridges team was due, in no small part, to the goalkeeping o f A dam King, while, offensively, Shane Robertson con tributed 17 goals in seven games. In the round robin to get to the Gardens, the peewees had to defeat a strong A pplew ood (M ississauga) aggregation 4-2. They had lost an ear lier game to the same team 3-2. Behind the bench are coach Gord B row nridge and assistant coaches Archie Chase and Rick Porter. M OHA house league vice presi dent M ark Bentley paid tribute to the three teams and congratulated them on their success. "As well, these wins are really shared awards with the other 149 house league teams, who help make the MOHA house league one of the finest in North America." Playoff sweep of Brampton sends Rangers on to next round The Bell ExpressVu Novice A Rangers have advanced to the next round of the OMHA playoffs after completing a three game sweep of the Brampton Battalion. The visiting Battalion were eliminated by a 7-0 loss in a final game that quite well reflected how the series went as well as the season for these Rangers. TYemendous goaltending provided by Grayson Douglas and Matthew Fyfe shut down the Battalion while the offence produced another seven goals. It has been that way all season, great defence as well as a relentless offensive assault. The Battalion were outscored in this series 21-7. In the final game of the series it was Michael McGilvery who turned it up a notch, nailing the first goal of the game from Hollis Milroy and Gabriel D'Rollo. McGilvery only waited a few shifts before striking again, having been assisted again by D'RoIlo and defenceman Matthew Lynett. The score at the end of two was 2- 0 Oakville. The third proved much too much for Brampton as they were (See Rangers' page D4) Oakville Curling Club eight-ender (Continued from page D1) the hammer, Parker decided to try to win the eight ender rather than draw to score three points. Parker threw a raise takeout, using one of his rocks, which was scoring in the four foot ring, to remove an oppo nent's stone, sitting fourth shot in the back eight foot ring. His shooter, m eanwhile, had to angle off this raised rock and remove the other red rock which was'sitting as third shot in the eight foot ring, on the other side o f the house. The shot was called, thrown, swept and was successful. It was a first for everyone on the rink.
