Canadians have stepped up to support the newly settled families, including local business Total Tech Pools & Leisure. The last weekend of April marks Total Tech Pools' 18th annual spring sale and barbecue, and this year all donations will be in support of The Refugee Resettlement Fund of the Oakville Community Foundation. This charity supports Syrian refugees settling in the Halton area with transportation and accommodations, working alongside Habitat for Humanity. "The plight of the Syrian refugees is in the forefront at the moment and we have a global responsibility as Canadians to not just look after people in our backyard, but to look after the whole global society," Total Tech Pools & Leisure president Dave Warren said. "They've been put in a horrible position through no fault of their own. Many of them are coming to Canada, they're literally coming with nothing and we have a moral duty to support them and to help them integrate into our society." The local company is supporting the cause through the annual event that attracts thousands of customers to the Speers Road location in Oakville for two days of food, games, prizes, bouncy castles and more. While the event is free of charge, the company will be raising funds through donations. "Whatever donations we receive, I match as well," Warren added. Each year, Total Tech Pools suppliers also make a contribution to the charity of choice. With this year marking Total Tech Pools' 25th anniversary, the event will also be an opportunity to raise awareness for the company. Warren noted that the Pool and Hot Tub Council of Canada is setting up a booth where representatives will answer questions regarding industry education, advocacy and safety. "We are constantly looking at ways to improve safety and standards in the industry," Warren said, adding that the staff at Total Tech Pools go through several hours of in-house training in addition to attending formal training classes. "We're very customer driven and staff driven, and we spend a tremendous amount of time and money on training." Although the company started in 1991 primarily as a pool service company, Total Tech Pools now provides clients with all types of repairs, new pool builds and restorations and maintenance on pools.
