Kathryn Doran will represent Ontario at Canadians after her performance at the recent provincial championships in Mississauga. Doran took all-around gold in the Level 10, age 15-plus category. She earned a silver medal on bars and bronze medals on beam and floor. The accomplishment advances Doran to the national championships in Edmonton scheduled for May 31-June 4. She will compete in both team and individual competitions against the best in the country. Another club member, Hannah Gula, placed second overall in the Level 9, age 15plus category. The showing, which included a bronze-medal performance on the uneven bars, allowed her to qualify for the Eastern Canadian championships in Quebec City this weekend as one of the Team Ontario representatives. Both Doran and Gula competed in Arizona in January as Ontario representatives. Provincial results represent a big improvement in the OGC program since Lorne Bobkin, Monica Covacci and Candice Feinrip took over the coaching reins this season. In addition to the pair moving on to major competitions, OGC athletes have won 16 medals. Other provincial highlights for the Oakville club included Level 6, age 9 competitor Lauren Feaver winning the gold medal on vault at her first Ontario meet. Another first-time provincial competitor, Shea Welling, was second all-around in the Level 6, age 12 category, earning a bronze medal on floor as well. Other medallists include Jenna Hassan (Level 7, age 9), bronze on bars and floor; Tendai Zingano (Level 7, age 10), bronze on floor; Micayah Coutinho (Level 8, age 13-14), bronze on floor; Jordyn Lynch (Level 8, age 15-plus), silver on vault; and Charlie Lister (Level 9, age 13-14), silver on vault. Other Oakville gymnasts, although not gaining medals, did garner ribbons and Top 10 finishes. They include Zoe Connelly (Level 6, age 10); Taylor Spalding (Level 6, age 10) and Elaine Cousin (Level 6, age 10), all of whom were competing in their first provincials, as well as Soraya Shohani (Level 7, age 10); Caitlyn Gardiner (Level 8, age 1213); and MacKenzie Robinson (Level 10, age 11-14). · See photo on page 25.
