Down tw o gam es, the Rangers won three straight to win the series and earn a'berth into the O M H A third round. T h e y 'll take on the first place Bram pton Battalion in a series that will provide one o f the five finalists to the T ournam ent o f Cham pions. D espite their stronger start O akville found them; selves dow n 1-0 after the opening ; fram e but the hard w ork paid off with three straight goals in the m iddle fram e. G uelph, how ever, cu t the O akville deficit to 3-2 with ju st over 'six m inutes left. Then, in the final 1:12, they scored the tying goal, the w inner (shorthanded) and the insurance m ark er (into an em pty net). O akville goals w ere scored by Selinger (from Daniel Purcell), Brad M orris (from M att Hand and goalie Joey Lepera) and Austen G regoris. G A M E T H R E E : history repeated itself in the third gam e but this time O akville m anaged to author them selves a m ore favourable ending. Up 31 in the third, O akville felt an eerie deja vu when G uelph closed the gap to 3-2. But this time that's where it stayed. M ore than 300 sw im m ers from a num ber o f clubs including Toronto, E ast York, O shaw a, G uelph, H am ilton, L indsay and M arkham participated in the tw o day event. H ost O akville was the high point w inner in both the fem ale and m ale team scores. T he Toronto Sw im C lub placed 2nd and T oronto O lym pian S w im C lub placed third. T he second high perform ance m eet hosted by O akville this season, it provided an opportunity for these young athletes to com pete w ith their peers and to dem onstrate their sw im m ing prow ess to this com m unity. Bruins open playoffs Thursday against S t Lawrence College I t's p la y o ff tim e for the d efen din g p r o v in c ia l ch a m p io n S h erid a n B ru in s w ho closed out the regular season F riday night w ith a 96-61 win over the D urham L ords in m en 's co l lege basketball action. T h e B ru in s, w ho had alre ad y w rapped up their third straight central d ivision title heading into the gam e, closed the books on an o th er fine reg ular season cam paign, at 13-2, and kept the m om entum going on their now 11-gam e w in streak (after they had opened the season w ith tw o w ins follow ed by tw o losses, to H um ber and D urham ). If the B ruins win, th ey 'll play a sem ifinal gam e F riday at 4 p.m. T h e ch a m p io n sh ip fin al goes S aturday night at 8 p.m. The Bruins were slow out o f the gate Friday night, trailing 30-29 late in the first half to the last place Lords before scoring eight in a row to close out the half leading 37-30. Even though it was a m eaningless gam e, B ruins' head man Jim Flack w asn't a happy man at the break: "We w eren't playing well and I let them have it at the half." The team responded with a 24-10 run to open the second half. It w as the final hom e gam e for three B ruins and each one o f them played a m ajor part in the win. Erue W hite led the way with five treys and 25 points -- 20 o f them in the second half. Chris W illiam s was a force at both ends with 12 rebounds. And All Canadian Shane Bascoe had 14 points, 8 assists, 4 blocks and 3 steals. Hugh Bent also scored 17 points for the Bruins and Chris B ennett added 12.
