Developmental vulnerability of children found highest in Halton Hills continued from p.45 Town of Halton Hills Community Programs Recreation Supervisor Mandy Keller said EDI results from 2012 motivated the Acton community to mobilize after it found the developmental vulnerability of children was the highest in Halton Hills (at 30 per cent). Agencies in the area met to address the data and were shown an infograph that bore alarming numbers, she said. Of the 142 Kindergarten students who were assessed with EDI, 55 were vulnerable in one or more areas," said Keller. "Of the five children, 27 were vulnerable on just one domain. Of the 27, 17 were vulnerable on the domain of physical health and well-being and 20 were vulnerable on the subdomain of gross and fine motor skills," she said. The numbers helped the Acton community put into action initiatives to support children, Keller said. Some were implemented in schools where students could benefit from education and development without financial limitations or parental engagement. The group also hosted a fun fair last September. It's "anxiously waiting" on the EDI results that are expected to come out later this spring, Keller said.
