Town staff said the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is doing repairs on the east side of the overpass at the QEW for safety. The work is expected to last until December 2016, during which time the overpass lanes will be reduced from six lanes to four (two open in each direction). Ramp lanes will be maintained during the construction and traffic signal timings will be adjusted from the QEW ramps to Trafalgar Road to help traffic flow. The reconstruction work will include: · Repairs to the bridge deck, including repaving the portion of Trafalgar Road that passes over the bridge · Waterproofing the bridge deck to protect from moisture and salt damage · Repairs and improvements to the concrete portions of the bridge, including its deck and supporting walls and columns, and to the concrete areas between the road and the bridge Additional enhancements are also being made with both sides of the overpass to be widened by 0.3 metres to accommodate wider sidewalks for pedestrians. Town staff said a 0.45 metre buffer zone would also be created between the sidewalk and the road.
