Family escapes injury when trees falls through roof A south Oakville family escaped injury when a large tree fell on their Holyrood Avenue home Monday (June 6). Oakville firefighters responded to the scene at 6:53 p.m to assess the structural stability of the home. Oakville Hydro shut off power to the building as water flowed in through the hole. No damage estimate is available at this time. Oakville Fire Chief Brian Durdin confirmed residents were home when the tree struck the house, but were not injured. They were advised to contact their insurance company and an arbourist to remove the fallen tree. A neighbouring house was also damaged in the incident that occurred as 75 km/h winds hit during the thunderstorm. The roof of a home across the street was also pierced by a falling branch from a different tree. Firefighters put a tarp over the hole as the damage was not extensive. The storms brought heavy downpours, thunder and lightning in addition to strong winds.
