That's up -- three places -- over last year's list, but continues to lag behind neighbouring Burlington, which was ranked second -- with Ottawa named the best community in which to live in Canada. The ranking, released Wednesday, was based on factors that affect quality of life in the 219 cities and communities across Canada that MoneySense examined. Factors included wealth/income, crime rate, amenities, weather, and housing affordability. MoneySense magazine's June edition also looks at the richest places and the best places to raise kids, to retire and for new Canadians. Oakville placed fourth in the top 10 richest places and second in the top 10 places in which to raise children. To see the full lists, visit www.moneysense. ca. by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff Halton police are investigating after an act of vandalism created a potentially dangerous situation at the Oakville Harbour last weekend. The Oakville Fire Department was called to the harbour at 2:23 p.m. Sunday (June 5) for reports of a boat owner having electrical problems. Deputy Fire Chief Andy Glynn said firefighters arrived to find an electrical junction box, which boat owners use to charge their boats, was in the water and still appeared to be live. "Crews shut off all the power on the dock and waited for the harbour master to attend the scene," said Glynn. Police said the junction box, which houses live wires, had been unscrewed from its base and then apparently thrown into the water. The incident happened some time between 6 p.m. Saturday (June 5) and 2 p.m. Sunday. No one was injured and box was repaired. Youths charged after disturbance Four youths are facing multiple charges following a disturbance at an Oakville youth custody centre that sent six people to hospital Saturday (June 4). Halton police were called to the Syl Apps Youth Centre on Iroquois Shore Road at around 2 p.m. to assist staff in controlling a disturbance involving a number of youths in custody. Police were quickly able to restore order. As a result of the disturbance, five youth and one staff member were taken to hospital for treatment. The staff member was treated and released with minor injuries a short time later. The five youths have now been discharged from hospital. As a result of the incident four youths, who cannot be named because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have been charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, and mischief over $5,000. The Syl Apps Youth Centre is a 120,000-square-foot facility that houses up to 48 youths. The centre, a secured facility, provides treatment and counselling for both custodial and non-custodial residents.
