McCallion was sworn in during an installation ceremony Monday (June 6) at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. She then had all week to get used to the ornate robe and hat that comes with the territory as she attended several Sheridan graduation ceremonies. "I think 95 is a perfect age to start a new job," she quipped during her chancellor's address, adding she was both delighted and stunned when offered the three-year ceremonial role. "Throughout her 36 years as the mayor of Mississauga, Hazel McCallion embodied the attributes we aim to instill in our students at Sheridan," he said. McCallion, a Québec native, told the Hammerson Hall audience her formal education ended at Grade 11.
