"The only measure of the show's success is not monetary, but the enjoyment of the kids." Young distributes credit for the show 's success year after year to people such as (associate producer) Annemarie and Gerry Donaldson, who handle ticket sales, Kim Warren who is responsi ble for props, director Laurene Collin-Knoblauch who are among the 30 volunteers, 12 coaches and 50 court moms who coordinate the minute details, such as the 700 costumes. Young also gives credit to the "wonderful" arena staff. "One of the very big jobs is court mom. We enlist one of the mothers, or fathers, to get the material and the pattern, ensure that parents are aware of rehearsals, dress rehearsals." The show runs approximately two hours and 45 minutes with 39 group numbers, features and solos, plus the added attraction of former three-time Canadian champ Josee Chouinard, who will appear in both the first and second half of the show. The coaches' creativity never ceases to amaze him, says Young. "It's very intense once you begin but it's not about volunteer time. It's about giving kids an opportunity they may never have again in their lives. Everybody has their 15 minutes of fame and this is part of that 15 minutes. That's the only reason we do it." Four showings will be held over a three-day run at Oakville Arena, Friday, March 31 (7 p.m.), Saturday, April 1 (1:30 and 7 p.m.) and Sunday, April 2 (1:30 p.m.). The loss was a disappointing end to an o th erw ise successful season w hich saw the Rangers finish in first place in the South Central AAA League with a 23-1-6 record. They accom plished this feat w hile record ing both the low est team goals against average and the fewest penalty m inutes in the OM HA. The Rangers were also hom e town cham pi ons o f the Oakville International Tournament held over Christmas. The Rangers and the Welland Tigers held identical 1-3-0 records after the round-robin portion o f the tournam ent, but the Rangers lone win was a 5-3 victory over W elland which was enough to put them in the bronze medal game. O akville spotted the Petes a two-goal lead going into the third period, but Carson Jenkin (from Zack Shepley) and Conor Kelly (unas sisted) got the Rangers back into the game. The third period comeback w asn't enough as the Petes scored the game winner on a deflection o ff a Ranger skate late in the third. Kelly was named Player o f the Gam e for Oakville. The Rangers began the tournam ent with a 30 loss to eventual cham pion York Simcoe Express. G oaltender Russ Brownell stopped 37 of 40 shots and was named Player of the Game for Oakville. The Rangers earned their sole victory o f the tourney in the second gam e with the 5-3 win over Welland.
