Sunday, April 9, 2000 Oakville Beaver Weekend 11 Cop injured during arrest of theft suspect A Halton Regional Police Constable was dragged about 60 feet by a pickup truck driven by a fleeing suspect, early Friday morning. Constable Peter Panagabko, a 12- ' year veteran of the police service, suf fered minor injuries and was treated at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital following the incident. The incident began at 4:40 a.m. when Panagabko responded to a call at Towne Boulevard and Dundas Street where he spotted a suspect apparently loading stolen construction site sup plies into his pickup truck. When the suspect spotted the policeman, he fled to his truck. Panagabko followed, and reached inside the vehicle's door to make the arrest when the suspect drove away. The policeman was dragged 60 feet before falling free of the truck. The fleeing suspect was stopped a short distance later by other police offi cers and arrested without further inci dent.. Joseph A lic, 36, of O akville is charged with dangerous driving, escape lawful custody, theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property and failure to stop for the police. He is scheduled to appear in Oakville Provincial Court on M ay 16th.
