O P E N S U N D A Y S 1 2 -5 14Q R e b e c c a St. O A K V I L L E 844-7728 Passover begins tonight Passover, the Jewish festival of human liberty, begins tonight, April 19th, when Jews around the world sit at the dining room table to observe the ancient ritual of the Seder. Seated around a table in the home, families and friends will read the story of God's redemption of the Hebrew slaves from bondage in Egypt. The festival will last seven days, concluding on April 26th. Passover is one of the most joyous of Jewish holidays, based on the historical events described in the Book of Exodus that relates the enslavement of the Jews in Egypt, God's redemption of the Hebrew slaves at the hand of Moses and the miracles of this deliverance. The Seder -- a Hebrew word for order, is a meal follow ing the order outlined in the Haggadah prayer book, using the rituals o f prayer, symbols, wine and food, to recall the deliverance of the Israelites from slavery. The best known of the Passover foods is matzah, unleav ened bread, representing the dough which did not have time to rise when the Israelites fled from Egyptian slavery on the night of deliverance. During the seven days of Passover, Jews don't eat leavened bread, only matzah. On the night before Passover begins, Jews search their houses for leav ened bread and remove it. For this reason, Passover is also known as the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Other symbols include haroseth, a mixture of chopped apples, nuts and a little wine. It represents the bricks the Hebrew slaves were forced to make without straw, a binder that made manufacture of bricks simple and quick. Read the news, book a cruise" Looking for a great escape?
