The event combined with a 5k Family Walk and lk Challenge for under-12-year-olds and Special Olympians helped raised $4,100 for the Oakville YMCA. Kenyans dominate YMCA 10k run The annual Invidiata Team-YMCA of Oakville 10k Run added featured an international flavour on Saturday with positive results. For the first time in its history, the YMCA run featured entries from Kenya -- a legendary pow erhouse in long-distance running circles -- and the visiting runners didn't disappoint. Kenyan runners finished first in both the male and female overall competitions, with the male entry setting a new record for the Oakville YMCA 10k run. David Kiptarus, a Kenyan runner currently training in Hamilton, was the first overall male runner with a time of 31:12. He finished ahead of Paul Osland, of Oakville, the former record holder, who recorded a time of 32:58. Andreas Carlborg, a runner visiting from Sweden, finished third with a time of 33:28. On the woman's side, Miriam Wangari, another Kenyan runner training in Hamilton, was the over all female winner with a time of 36:18. Adela Flista, of Hamilton, was second with a time of 36:24, and Margaret Wilson, of Hamilton, was third with a time of 40:22. f The Oakville YMCA 10k run featured the largest ever field of 197 entrants -- double last year's registration. Net proceeds from the run, plus the concurrent 5k Family Walk and the lk Challenge for under12-year-olds and Special Olympians, totaled approximately $4,100.
