A variety of performers took to the piano situated in Towne Square -- one of six locations at which the painted pianos can be found across the town. The pianos, painted in bright colours by local youths attending summer camps and at the Oakville Children's Festival last month, will be placed at the following locations: · Towne Square, Lakeshore Road East and George Street; · Westwood Park, 170 Wilson St.; · Coronation Park, 1426 Lakeshore Rd. W.; · Bronte Village, Lakeshore Road West at Bronte Road; · Glen Abbey Community Centre, 1415 Third Line; · Iroquois Ridge Community Centre, 1051 Glenashton Dr. Organizers of the outdoor piano project said it is meant to be "a simple and creative way for the community to engage with arts and culture while showcasing their own musical talent." If a piano player of any age and ability happens to find a one of the brightly-coloured instruments, they are encouraged to film their impromptu performance. Sharing their video on Merriam Music's Facebook page, facebook.com/MerriamMusic, and using the hashtag #OakvilleMakesMusic will enter participants in a contest to win prizes, such as a Kawai ES100 digital piano. The Town of Oakville's Musical Moments project, in partnership with Merriam Music, runs through Aug. 31 and will see six "street pianos" placed at various locations in the community. "Street pianos provide access to this wonderful musical instrument and gives the local community the opportunity to share their creativity by performing in public," according to project organizers.
