Woman charged after dog left in hot van An Oakville woman was charged after a dog was left in a hot vehicle at Blue Mountain Resort in Grey County Monday, Sept. 5. At 5 p.m., officers with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrived in the resort parking lot after receiving several reports about the dog. Police said they found the dog, apparently in distress, in a parked van with the windows shut. An officer smashed one of the van's windows and took the dog out and gave it water. The dog's owner, a 77-year-old Oakville woman, arrived some time later and was charged under the Collingwood Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw. Police have not released her name. The OPP remind pet owners parked cars can quickly reach deadly temperatures, even on mild days with the car parked in the shade and the windows slightly open. Dogs have a limited ability to sweat and even a short time in a hot environment can be life threatening. Police said a dog's normal body temperature is about 39C and a temperature of 41C can only be withstood for a very short time before irreparable brain damage or even death occurs. Salima Kassam Reg.
