Phantoms defend Ontario Cup title by weathering Storm in shootout The Oakville Phantoms Under-15 girls soccer team needed a shootout to defend their Ontario^ Indoor Cup Championship. The Phantoms edged the Brampton Storm 4-3 in the shootout after the teams played to a scoreless draw. Oakville goalkeeper T^ryn McKenna made two key saves in the shootout while Kristian Visconti, Nicola Ramsden, Erin Tilley and Kelsey Young delivered goals for the Phantoms. "Winning this tournament once is a significant enough feat but to win it two years in a row speaks to the talent on this team'," said head coach Peter Uremovich. The Brampton squad wasn't the only thing the Phantoms were battling. Oakville battled the flu and overcame the absence of some key players to Win its second straight title. With Tara Dawdy and Angelika Uremovich unavailable due to provincial club commitments, and co-captain Shannon Fisher missing the tournament because of an ankle injury, it was left to the other 14 players to defend the title. "Some of our players were suffering from a flu bug but they didn't let that stop them ," Uremovich said. "Our slogan this year was `possession with a purpose' and we maintained possession for much of our games, driving to the net, creating scoring chances while limiting scoring chances for our opponents." The semifinal against Richmond Hill also went into a shootout after a scoreless draw. Oakville finally prevailed on a goal by Danielle Jordan, the ninth shot in the shootout. The Phantoms advanced to the semifinal following a 5-0 victory over the Brampton Blitz and a 1-0 win over Glen Shields. In a preview of the final, the Phantoms tied the Brampton Storm 1-1.
