Local Alzheimer Society branch awarded certificate of accreditation The local branch of the Alzheimer Society has been awarded a four-year accreditation by the Canadian Centre for Accreditation (CCA), shining a special light on the hard work, dedication and professionalism of staff and members of the non-profit organization's board of directors. "To be CCA accredited is truly a seal of approval," said Alzheimer Society of Brant, Haldimand Norfolk, Hamilton Halton board chair Claire Forster. "Our stakeholders can be assured that we have undergone an extensive internal and external review process that measures our practices against sector and industry standards." The CCA was formed in response to a growing interest in a national accreditation program tailored to community-based health and social services. Five associations joined together Five associations of community service providers came together to form the CCA, a non-profit that accredits a wide range of community-based human service organizations with a modular, tailored program that promotes excellence and quality. The accreditation process, according to an Alzheimer Society release, provides assurance from a respected third-party that the organization meets commonly accepted standards and good governance, management and excellence in service provision. It confirms that the Society is operating responsibly and providing responsible and quality services. "By choosing to go through the CCA accreditation process, the Alzheimer Society is demonstrating its accountability to the community and its commitment to providing the highest quality programs and services," said CCA's executive director Barbara Wiktorowicz. Accreditation, said the Society's CEO Mary Burnett, is a rigorous process that saw the organization achieve 100 per cent compliance in both the mandatory and leading practice standards. "We are very proud of the work our staff does every day in delivering quality, innovative supports for those affected by dementia," said Burnett.
