Rising costs hitting businesses hard: Chamber survey The Oakville Chamber of Commerce says a recent survey of its members has found rising costs are having a significant impact on local business and industry. In the 2016 advocacy survey, 83 per cent of responders believe energy costs are becoming a serious obstacle to doing business. It was a similar story for Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) rates with 78 per cent of respondents listing these as becoming a serious obstacle. When asked about emissions trading, 82 per cent of respondents said any cap and trade plan should be delayed until its impact on business is fully understood. On the subject of transportation, 64 per cent of respondents stated traffic congestion is creating real problems for business. Local businesses also called for more investment in roads and bridges, public parking and transit to solve the congestion problem. When it comes to local issues surrounding planning and development, 70 per cent of surveyed businesses said the regulations in place are unreasonable and excessive.
