The arrest follows 21 bank robberies across southern Ontario since Dec. 21, including two in Oakville and four in Burlington that police allege were committed by the Camouflage Bandit. The robber earned his nick name by wearing sunglasses, a toque and army pants during the robberies. He also regular ly changed his appearance. He was sometimes bearded, but was clean-shaven during the latest heist, which police say occurred Saturday when a man entered a CIBC branch on Erin Mills Pkwy., just south of Hwy. 403, at about 10:30 a.m. The suspect hadn't worn gloves in any of the robberies, "A lot of people think it's easy to lift a print, but there are a lot of contributing factors like how clean the surface is and what kind of print it is. It's the break the whole task force needed." Peel Det.-Sgt. Bruce Chapman said Peel Det.-Sgt. Bruce Chapman. It was only a matter of time before a usable print would turn up, they noted. "A lot of people think it's easy to lift a print, but there are a lot of contributing factors like how clean the surface is and what kind of print it is," he said. "It's the break the whole task force needed." The Bandit's robberies, committed over the past three m onths, garnered a lot of media attention. The suspect came close to being arrested last month after a teller recog nized him while he stood in line at a Scotiabank in Oakville. He fled without attempting to rob the bank, police said. Surveillance photographs of a suspect were released to the public in late January, but at least 10 more robberies were committed before an arrest was made. Police confirmed that Tuesday's arrest wasn't the result of a tip. "We're obviously very pleased (police) have a suspect in custody," CBA spokesperson Maura Drew-Lytle told the Post, stressing robberies can be traumatic for bank tellers.
