Event co-chair France Theriault-Martin shared the same sentiment, noting she was not really aware there was such a need for a fundraiser like Empty Bowls until she got involved and saw "another side of Oakville." It's what has motivated her return not only as an attendee, but to also help organize the event over the last few years. "For me, it's really important to give back as a person and be involved in my community," she said. "It's very important, it's kind of a reminder that you never know what could happen to any of us," Theriault-Martin continued, noting you could be living in abundance one moment and find yourself in a different situation six months down the road. Gladysse Cristofaro, the other co-chair boasts Empty Bowls is one that brings together the whole community. Not only does she enjoy participating in bowl-painting parties ahead of the event with her 16-year-old daughter, but on the day of the event, she looks forward to sitting at the long communal tables and engaging in conversations with people she would not have otherwise met. It's a time to connect with some new people you haven't met, Christofaro shared. It's also a chance for people to learn of the need that exists in their local community, she added.
