It will take place at Oakville's Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd., 6-9:30 p.m. After announcing proposed changes to the OMB, the provincial government is inviting residents to share their views on the independent, administrative body, which handles appeals of land-use planning disputes. "For years now Oakville residents and community leaders have OMB reform meeting Nov. 3 at Town Hall expressed their frustration with the unfair, arbitrary decision-making of the OMB," stated Burton in a press release. "Now the Province is considering serious changes to the board, and it is critical everyday residents have their voices heard." The Town and others have criticized the OMB for applying, what the Town called, its own "arbitrary decisionmaking" above pre-existing municipal and provincial policies. A key reform proposed would require the OMB to only overturn a planning decision if that decision fails to abide by local or provincial policies. "Councils dedicate enormous time and taxpayer resources designing policies that work for our residents and abide by provincial law," said Burton stated. "This is an opportunity to assure those policies-and the communities they support- are respected by the OMB."
