"On Friday nights in the late '80s, Oakville teens flocked to local venues, such as Knights of Columbus Hall, Local 707 Galaxy Banquet Hall and Le Dome Banquet Hall, to attend `dances' hosted by aspiring young DJ groups," stated a media release. "The emergence of Miami freestyle, house and hip-hop music into the mainstream made these events very popular among teens at the time. "I had the idea to do this about two years ago, but with a very busy schedule, I never got around to it," Fortino said. "Last December, my mother was diagnosed with cancer and that' s when I de cided to do this and run it as a fundraiser." All proceeds will be donated to the Cana dian Cancer Society -- Fortino' s goal is to raise $15,000 for cancer research.
