More RCM honours for Oakville musicians, teacher Four Oakville music students were recently award gold med als by the Royal Conservatory of Music. The quartet join Oakville' s Vienna Maryce, who was also recently awarded the Provin cial Gold Medal from the RCM for achieving the highest exam mark in voice for all of Ontario in 2016 -- the youngster' s mark tied with 10-year-old So phie Mulvey in Level 1 Voice. Sophie is a Grade 5 student at Ecole Elementaire Catholique Sainte-Marie with hobbies that include dance, tumbling, paint ing and photography. In November, she per formed the lead (Elle Woods) in the Innovative Arts Produc tion of Legally Blonde. The remaining recipients include: · Rhiannon Burley Sm ith , 10, Preparatory Flute -- in structor Caroline Arthur; · Heeyoung Angela Chang , 13, Level 2 Oboe -- instructor Marta Kosek; · Aisha Sato Chen, 11, Level 8 Violin -- instructor Bethany Goluboff. Regional Gold Medals are awarded each academic year (Sept. 1-Aug. 31) to RCM ex amination candidates in Prepa ratory A and B and Grades 1-10 who achieve the highest mark in their respective province or designated region. Eligible candidates must score at least 80 per cent on their practical exams and must have completed the co-requi site theory exams for their re spective grade and discipline. Gold medal ceremonies are held annually in cities across Canada to recognize students' achievements and acknowl edge the contributions of their teachers.
