LINBROOK SCHO O L FOR BOYS Kind a c ts can be displayed in m any w ays throughout the year and alw ays bring sp e cial m eaning to th o se involved. Fam ilies, o rganizations and individuals often go out of their way to fi nd unique w ays to display tho ugh tfu lness to others. Throughout the month of Decem ber, Lin brook Scho o l posed a k in d n e ss challenge for its stu d e n ts. It w a s a wonderful oppor tunity to reinforce the im portance of being kind friends, helpful so n s , caring brothers and charitable citize ns. The challen ge be gan with a presentation by the two authors, Tracy V in cze and Renata C hubb, of a newly re lease d book, Furmont Chrismouse. Tracy and Renata attended a sch oo l a s se m b ly in m id-Novem ber and enjoyed brainstorm ing with the boys about w ays to show k in d n e ss. Bo ys of all a g e s e n th u siastically par ticipated in the school-w ide k in d n e ss chal lenge. So m e initiatives were student run and took place at sch oo l. For exam ple, the Grade 8 boys led a sh o e sh in in g cam paign. They enjoyed sh in in g the sch oo l sh o e s of the boys in junior kindergarten through Grade 7. In addition, the boys in Grade 5 wrote random no tes of k in d n e ss and left them on their te a c h e rs ' c a rs. T h e se notes included m e s s a g e s of th a n k s for their te a c h e rs' hard w ork and com m itm ent to teaching. The boys a lso sh ared their ran dom a c ts of k in d n e ss with the community. Their thoughtful a c ts included sh oveling their n e igh b o u rs' driveways, clea n in g the snow off their p a re n ts' c a rs, reading to their younger sib lin g s, helping with cooking m e a ls and se ttin g the table, and donating to local charities. There were trip s to the food bank and the hum ane society, and the Salvation Arm y w a s the recipient of gener o u s donations from Linbrook fam ilie s a s part of the "Toys for T e e n s" drive. The b o y s' d isp la y s of k in d n e ss are part of every day at Linbrook. They are taught to be kind to one another by show ing respect, su ppo rt and a helpful hand when needed.
