ANDREW SCHOOL here is something special about the S t Andrew Grade 8 students. We know that we are the first graduat ing class and we hope that we have made our teachers and parents proud of us. We also know that because we are the first graduating class, we will be leaving a bench mark for all who follow. Our grade had many expectations to meet from teachers and parents. We had to be role models for the younger students, and we had to make the academic grade. We have tried our best to meet these T S P E A KO U T School News expectations, and more. S t Andrew School filled with magic from the opening day in September, when the school was blessed by Bishop Tonas. From that moment, we began to blossom. During this first year, we've enjoyed many events and field trips. Our trip to K ID S Ottawa was a great experience. We visited the parliament buildings, the Rideau Centre, the museum of civilization, and the National Art Gallery. We learned a lot on the trip. We learned that in 1916, a great fire almost completely destroyed the parliament building. The success of the trip was due to good planning by our teachers. It was an excellent trip and we would like to thank our teachers for mak ing it such a great experience. Our school has been involved in developing sports. Like any other school, we have teams for volleyball, basketball and track. One of the difficulties for a new school is that we were all new and we didn't know each other or our capabilities. Practice was a little more difficult than it would be at other schools. Still, we will eventu ally build a sports tradition, just wait and see. Another aspect of our new school was the meeting of new people -- new students, new teachers, new everybody. It was a strange feeling to be a student on that first day. Everyone was a little nervous. What would people be like? Will they like me? Will I make friends? But then you learn that every other kid feels the same way and soon, everyone starts to make friends. There are some disadvantages about starting at a new school, but not many. One that I can remember is that some of the school materials were not ready for our first day. Our library had lots of shelves but few books. Now it is great. The Grade 8 students also knew that, because they would be the first graduating class, they would be remembered. People always remember the first and the last. That was a little bit of pressure for us. At our new school, the magic is just starting and it is noticed by all. This magic is produced by a great team of students, teachers, teacher aides, custodians, secretaries, vol unteers and parents.
