Depending on your area, you may find a limited selection of wines and spir its that is usually carried only at the Vintage Stores. Far from satisfactory, there should be more Vintages Stores in major centres, but those Vintage Comers are worth a second look, if you are searching for something special. The wine of the month, so designated by the LCBO, is the 1997 Capitel dei Nicola Valpolicella for $13. This is one of the better wines of this excellent vintage. The grapes are hand-picked and then dried in wooden cases for a month before crush ing. By then some of the water will have evaporated and it ends up with a more con centrated and slightly softer red wine from Northern Italy.. This "wine of the month" should be available at every Vintage Comer in Ontario under CSPC 984997. Presumably not so easy to find, is the 1997 Silvaner Kabinett from the Franken Region of Germany. The Tauberrettersheimer Konigin is an off-dry white wine that is unsurpassed in its fine floral aroma with undertones of lime and peach. This delicious wine is a rarity and quite reasonably priced at $11.70 under CSPC 555136. Franken wines come in bottles known as "Bocksbeutel" that are somewhat similar in shape of the wellknown Mateus from Portugal.
