Friday, September 15, 2000 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER 29 Art kits can be designed to fit customer' s needs (Continued from page 27) can glue and decoupage over and take with them on a string. So that they'll have something." The regular A rt Kits fo r Children are $15 each, with smaller Tooth Fairy Boxes going for under $10. And, says Brownell, they make good party activities that double as favours. `T h e neat thing is, I design them. So, I can design themed kits," she says, noting that the kits Pick of the Crop will ultimately have in stock will not be the same designs as those currently available at the AGO or at the Burlington Art Centre, which are different again from those featured in the Grand River Toy Company's catalogue. "Every kit has its own specific instructions. Every kit Jtas its own photographs (of each component)," she explains. "So, every time I design a new kit, the instructions, the pho tography, the insides, and the outside have to be done again. "Every k it has its own specific instructions. Every k it has its own photographs. So, every tim e I design a new kit, the instructions, the photography, the insides, and die outside have to be done again." But I'm getting better at it." Brownell says she has it down to a science now, cutting and packaging about 50 kits a day, but that's once the pho tography and the instructions are complete and ready to go. Her seven-year-old daughter, Beth Anne, she says, is her "brutally honest" critic. But judging from the hundreds of kits she has already sold, criticism must be at a minimum. "Some adults have asked, `When are you doing adult kits?' I don't know," she says, admitting that people can lose themselves in the creative process as they fashion their magic boxes. After this weekend's launch at Pick o f the Crop, Brownell has a plethora of ideas for her art kits - some designed to accompany fantasy prints painted by Oakville artist Frances Tyrrell, others in which portable xylophones would be the end result, and still others featuring masks on a stick - her ideas are endless. "I'm an idea person," she admits. "And I like to build things." ontrackauto.net SHOP AT HOM E SERVICE W e S6.00 MOVIES FROM (4 6 PM) EKEKY WEEKDAY IT TWILITE '[ICIUDIK MIIOM S 5 S & THEATRES c\mc STUDEHTjv, TiCXETSW ALWAYS S8.IM WHEN YOU SHOW YOUfl STUDENT I D CA8D AT TIME OF PURCHASE · N O CHARGE · NO OBLIGATION B r in g O u r S h o w r o o m T o Y o u ! & ON SALE to L E V O L O R ' NOW : Have you thought about doing minor repairs yourself or even learning about your car?
