12 Oakville Beaver W eekend Sunday, October 22, 2000 IODE helps Bronte Butterfly Project plant first tree In association w ith the A ngela Bruce C hapter o f the IO D E, the Bronte B utterfly Foundation will plant its first tree, a red oak, on Wednesday at the site o f the future B ronte B utterfly in H eritage Waterfront Park. As part o f IO D E C entennial Awareness Week in Oakville and to officially com m em orate the 100th A nniversary of IODE in Canada a red oak, native to the Halton region and a species known to attract butterflies will be planted. Formal dedication will include IODE Vice Regent, Joan Larson, IODE Provincial (Hamilton) President, Chris Bateman, MP Bonnie Brown, Acting Mayor Stephen Sparling and Butterfly Foundation C hair Lee Bernard. "We are delighted that the IODE has chosen the site of the Butterfly project to honour this major plateau in the long life of such a great community organization," said Bernard. This very special tree will prove a lasting legacy for many generations of children to enjoy." This year IODE celebrates 100 years of women working together for Canada. In hon our o f this m ilestone, IODE established the 100th Anniversary G rant Program . M embers across Canada raised $200,000 for -this gift to Canadais children. During the week of Oct. 22nd-28th, IODE wom en across C anada will focus on prevention o f child abuse and neglect. "The B utterfly Park will provide a haven o f activities and learning experiences for children to interact with nature and the environment. We are pleased to contribute to the cre ation o f this wonderful com munity project that will benefit so many,"enthused Larson.
