"During the last two years, three criminal charges have been laid by the society, and we've won all three," said Gyergyai, "this hap pened when we didn't have an inspector here." "This indicated a strong need for an inspec tor in this area," said Gray. "It's an honour to be appointed an inspec tor," she concludes. "We've needed an inspec tor for a long time." Both feel the humane society benefits from having inspectors on staff. "It helps the animals," said Gyergyai. "The animals are our first concern." Criminal charges can be laid when an ani mal, domestic or wildlife, shows signs of phys ical abuse and neglect, and in instances of an individual intentionally harming an animal.
