D4 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, June 21, 2000 Sydney Olympic dreams come to an end Domenic Filane will not be going to his third Olympic Games this year. The third and final qualifying trials for the Americas concluded in Argentina recently, and Filane went down to defeat, 16-4 to Jose Albuquerque of Brazil. LAZER SAILING Oakville had no less than three com petitors finish atop Canada's Laser boat Olympic qualifier in Kingston recently. Unfortunately, however, only one Olympic berth was up for grabs and that went to one of the pre-competition favourites, Marty Essig of Carlisle. In 7th was Oskar Johansson, in 9th was David Wright and in 10th was Nathan Cowan. Oakville Soccer Club house league results (May 24) BOYS UNDER 9-C TENSOR ROYAL BLUE 1 (Richard Hughes); TENSOR RED 0. KERR 233 R obinson Street O akville, O ntario L6J 4Z5 BROWN, Barbara Ann After a courageous bat tle with cancer, Barbara finally felt ready to end her fight on Thursday, June 15, 2000, in her 66th year. Barbara passed away peacefully and with dignity, with her husband and daugh ter at her side, at Ian Anderson House in Oakville. Loving daughter of Waiter Russell of Victoria, BC, and the late Beatrice Russell (Dean). Beloved wife of 41 years of Michael Brown of Oakville, dear mom and friend of Sherry Brown and her husband Richard Tait of Hamilton, and `Gran' to her most cherished and long-awaited granddaughter, Kayleigh TaitBrown. Throughout this terrible ordeal, Barb has been supported by her wonderful friends: Signy Austen, Shirley Beaudoin, Marlene Cain, Edith Huhta, and Sheelagh MacDiarmid. Barb loved them all like sisters, and that love was returned tenfold. Barbara is also survived by a son, David and his wife Kelly of Nevada. In keeping with Barbara's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A service of remembrance to celebrate Barbara's life will be announced at a later date. In her memory, donations to Ian Anderson House, the VON (Halton), or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks are extended to the staff at I.A.H., Dr. Gail MacPherson and the Halton VON, especially nurse Geri Ferguson.
