Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is looking for new members to round out the ranks of its Auxiliary Unit. According to Sgt. Ray Hendry, HRPS is now actively recruiting individuals with time to give back to their com munity through this challenging and rewarding program. Authorized to have 58 officers, the unit currently has 34 and Hendry says members sometimes have trouble meet ing the demands on them. `The Auxiliary Unit is a cornerstone program of the service's efforts in community policing," said Hendry, HRPS Community Policing Co-ordinator. "It brings the community not just closer to the service but it gives the community a chance to stand in our shoes." An Oakville information session has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 12th at police headquarters, 1151 Bronte Rd., starting at 7 p.m. Drop by and leam about the unit and obtain an application. All applicants must have First Aid and CPR training, a valid drivers license and a high school diploma. After the initial screening, individuals will be invited to a written testing on July 26th. Successful applicants will then receive fitness testing on August 2nd. Those selected will start their training program this September.
