The tourney is in honour of the memory of former Little League player Adam Fedoruk who tragically lost his life in a house fire two years ago. There are a dozen teams in the tourney -- Oakville Majors, Oakville Minors, Michigan Majors, Michigan Minors, Dundas, Ancaster, Erindale, Kanata, Stoney Creek, High Park, Orangeville and Mexico, New York. Convenors for the tournament are Wayne Hanley and Terry Sears. The schedule is included (admission is free): Sign up for `Hockey for Heart' Canlan Ice Sports will host its inaugural corporate `Hockey for Heart' tournament in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. The tournament will take place at Canlan Ice Sports' four Ontario facilities in September, including Sept. 15-17 in Oakville. The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario is a community-based volunteer organization whose mis sion is to reduce the risk of premature death and dis ability from heart disease and stroke by raising funds for research and health promotion. The goal of the `Hockey for Heart' tournament is to raise more than $60,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario through 88 corporate team entry fees and on-site activities such as a hockey shoot-out, skate-a-thon and silent auction. Funds raised by the tournament will help to sup port more than 290 research teams across Ontario that are dedicated to fighting Canada's number one killer. Heart disease and stroke claim over 79,000 lives each year in Canada, accounting for 38 per cent of all deaths in the nation. The team entry fee is $2,0000 with a tax receipt to be issued to each registered team or team member. Divisions for all skill levels are available and co-ed teams are welcome. Space for the tournament is lim ited so teams are encouraged to send in their applica tions as soon as possible. The tourney is sponsored by Canlan Ice Sports, Blockbuster Video, Coca-Cola, Labatt, Maple Lodge Farms, RCS Print and Promotions, Secrets of Power Marketing and TELUS.
