In Grade 2, Christian Martyn took part in a school perform ance of Hansel and Gretel at Fern Hill School and was bitten by the acting bug. The experience sparked his interest in acting and Martyn took acting lessens as a child. He auditioned for an acting com petition in Los Angeles when he was nine years old, w inning in several categories includ ing best TV com mercial and child actor of the year (in his age group). W hile in Los Angeles, Martyn auditioned for the 2 0 1 0 movie Snowmen , in w hich he landed the role of Lucas Lamb. He later ap peared in the movie Home Alone/ The Holiday Heist, 2 0 1 2 , and Breakout, 2 0 1 3 , a drama him shot in Sault Ste. Marie. Martyn is currently ap pearing in the new CBC/ Netflix series Anne, based on Lucy Maud M ontgom ery's classic novel Anne o f Green Gables. The series premiered on CBC on March 19. Anne com es out on Netflix on May 12. In the series, Mar tyn plays Billy Andrews, a bully. "I've never been a bad guy or m ean person," said Martyn, who is in Grade 11 at Iroquois Ridge High School. W hen Martyn auditioned for the role, he didn't expect to get the part. "I was a little bit shocked... and happy," he said. The series, w hich was shot in Ontario, north of Toronto, and in the Hamil ton area, wrapped up Lim ing for the first season. The average day started at 5:15 a.m ., travelling to the set by 6 :3 0 a.m. and filming until sundown. Although he was work ing 1 1-and-a-half hours, Martyn said the experience was a blast. "It was really, really fun." As for his future, Martyn plans to keep on acting after high school. In January, he plans to go back to Los An geles to audition for parts. "I want to continue act ing," he said. Callingall poets in Oakville Oakville Literary Cafe is seeking subm is sions for its Poetry M onth Contest. Poets are asked to send in poems written in response to the art in exhibit at Josh ua Creek Art Centre. The Louise Laroche Collective will be on exhibit until May 14. The Oakville Literary Cafe judges will select four winners who will each receive a $ 5 0 prize, as well as coverage in the local newspaper and social media. Instead, participants should send a separate cover letter indicating your name, address and contact inform ation, as well as the title of your poem. The deadline for subm issions is April 14.
