Olga was born at home in the small to w n o f M annville, A lberta, the fo u rth (and last surviving) o f the six children o f John and Carrie Burch. During the Great Depression, she lived life as portrayed in the classic novel/movie "W hy Shoot the Teacher" - riding horses, ofte n in sub-zero weather, to teach in a one-room ten-grade schoolhouse on the prairies fo r pay reduced from $100 to $50 a m onth (Depression pay). Later she married Charles Allison and lived in Edmonton (Highlands) fo r a fe w years. She spent most o f her life in Vancouver (Kerrisdale) w here she raised her tw o children, cared fo r her elderly in-laws, and started her own private kindergarten (Kiddie Korner Kindergarten). She recalled this as one o f the happiest times o f her life. W hen kindergarten became part o f the B.C. elem entary school program, she w e n t back to school, w ith tre pid atio n because o f her age (in her fifties), to upgrade her A lberta Normal School qualifications to B.C. Teacher qualifications. She graduated w ith Honours. She then ta u g h t kindergarten at Shaughnessy School fo r ten years until her retirem ent in 1974. A t age 80, w idow ed, she moved to Oakville O ntario, to be close to her tw o children. She enthusiastically b u ilt a new life, spending tim e w ith family, making many new friends, entertaining, and playing bridge. She is greatly missed by her daughter, Karen Galbraith, and her son, Frank Allison. She is also sadly missed by son-in-law David, adored grandson Paul (Kelly ForsytheGalbraith), and great grandchildren A idan and A bby Galbraith.
