Sheila Fram e is vice-pres. o f Corporate Affairs for AstraZeneca Canada Inc. and is responsible for oversee ing all corporate and em ployee com m unications and gov ernm ent relations. She joined the firm after its merger and had the task o f making em ployees feel valued as two busi ness cultures com bined. Fram e created an employee event and was successful in having the com pany's International Chairm an attend the first anniversary celebration of the merger. The chair man has accepted Fram e's invitation to attend a similar event in M ontreal next month. The ju d g es cited F ram e's innovative approach to increasing the profile of A straZeneca on the world stage that won her the award. Fram e won in the Innovation category. Laurie M orrison is the Executive Director o f The Enterprise Centre that provides support program s and ser vices both entrepreneurs and those wishing to enhance their current business. T She is also senior vice-pres. of the Oakville Chamber o f Commerce, a member of the M ississauga Board of Trade, the Burlington Chamber o f Commerce, and the Brampton Board o f Trade. M orrison's dedication to the community is broad and deep and includes a passion for writing children's books and comic strips to retaining her Private Investigator's licence. She has recently initiated two new programs at the Enterprise Centre, one that's specific to new immigrants and another focusing on .com entrepreneurship. In choosing her for a Pinnacle Award, the judges said those who deal with Morrison see her as a mentor-and that includes her 10-year-old son Brendon who was so inspired by his mother that he's ready to start his own event-planning business. M orrison won in the Com m unity and Volunteer Contribution category. The Peel recipients were Janice Byer, founder/owner of Docu-Type Administrative Services, who won in the Most Successful Business Start-U p category and Theresa Hawley, Program Director Ontario Community Support Association `Through Other Eyes', who was honoured in the Education, Training and Development division. Investor sem inars The Investor Learning Centre o f Canada (ILC) has launched its new fall season of its Intelligent Investing Level 1 and 2 seminars. In te llig e n t Investing Level 1 is designed for novice investors and will take them through the basics of investing cov ering stocks, bonds, mutual funds, RRSPs, and much more. Level 1 costs $175 and consists of six two-and-ahalf-hour semi nars lasting six weeks and is for more experienced investors. The Level 2 course raises the knowl edge levels of investors and includes real-life exercises on such topics as company and stock analy sis, alternatives to mutual funds and portfolio manage ment. The cost for the Level 2 semi nar is $200. Included in both the Level 1 and Level 2 are several useful publications, a student workbook and a variety of other useful learn ing materials. The courses are taught by senior invest ment profession als, licensed and trained by the ILC, who are bound by a strict code of conduct to keep the seminars completely nonpromotional. Established in 19%, the ILC is Canada's only independent norfor-profit organi zation dedicated to providing nonp ro m o tio n a l investment infor mation to the gen eral public.
