Blakelock wins Moen Tub in United W ay Bathtub Race The T. A. Blakelock Tigers beat Appleby College, last year's champs, to win the cov eted Moen Tub Award at Sunday's 37th annual Oakville United Way Bathtub Race. The annual race launches the United Way's fundraising campaign in Oakville. A goal of $2.7 million was announced at the event, representing a 7% increase over last year. The United Way campaign runs until the end of November. Sunday's win marks Blakelock's 13th on the tub circuit and highlights their position as the all-time most winning team. The Blakelock team consists of Matt Ferrone, Greg Rankin, Andrew Elgar, Heshan Uduwerella, Brent Wells, Natalie Crooks, Chris Lorenz, Leslie Marriott, Emily Dobbie, Leah Ringwald, Renu Gautam, Bryan Grennam Missy Kitching and Kevin Stewart. Nine high schools competed in the event, including Appleby, Blakelock, Oakville Trafalgar, White Oaks, Queen Elizabeth Park, St. Mildred's-Lightboum, St. Thomas Aquinas, Iroquois Ridge and Maclachlan College. White Oaks won the Spirit Award after loaning their bathtub to Queen Elizabeth Park. QEP lost a wheel after the first quali fying race. Between races, spectators were treated to a glimpse of the United Way's Carousel of Nations when dancers from the Portuguese and Arabic pavilions performed at Town Square. A number of United Way agencies also treated visitors to balloons, popcorn and a variety of games. Mayor Ann Mulvale and CHWO Radio personality Jim Paulson provided commen tary from high above from an Oakville Hydro `cherry picker.'
