Photo by Riziero Vertolli Political and social commentary in photos Patrick Faigenbaum: New and Recent Photographs, is an exhibition which was developed by well-known Canadian curator Gregory Salzman for Oakville Galleries at Centennial Square. Faigenbaum, a Paris-based photog rapher, received public recognition for his acclaimed photographic series of the Italian aristocracy in the 1980s. By using the subjects' elaborate homes as his studio, Faigenbaum represented social class in these black-and-white photos, while providing a warm and intimate view of family interactions. Faigenbaum's work creates a dia logue between its characters and their surroundings. Faigenbaum's works are politically charged and represent complex soci etal structures, yet he also pays atten tion to composition, position, colour and tonal range. His photography exhibition at Oakville Galleries will continue in Centennial Square until Nov. 26th and will present a collection of Faigen baum's early and most recent works. Black-and-white photographs from his series of a working-class district in Barcelona, Spain, will be combined with portraits from his early series on the Italian aristocracy along with the mid-nineties colour photographs of the people and streets of Bremen. This exhibition is guest curated by Gregory Salzman, who will give a talk on the work of Faigenbaum on Nov. 1st at 7:30 p.m. in the Centennial Square location at 120 Navy St. The gallery is open Tuesdays to Thursdays from noon to 9 p.m., Fri days from noon to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m., to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
