Ungar, 25, set his second Guin ness jumping m ark on Tuesday, exactly one year after achieving his first. He pretty m uch knew his at tempt at a one-leg jum p would be a record-setter since he kept annihi lating the current mark of 39 inches in practice. At the Mississauga One Health Club where he works, Ungar broke the old record of 39 inches by reaching 4 1 , 51 and finally, switch ing to his left leg, 53 inches. He was using his "other" leg be cause on Ungar' s first unsuccessful attempt at 53 inches he suffered a gash on his right shin that warrant ed five stitches once his jumping was completed. Last year, attempting to set a Guinness record for the highest two-legged jum p onto a platform, he bettered the previous m ark of 5 9 .8 inches by reaching 6 1 .5 , then 6 3 .5 inches (about 1.6 metres m et rically speaking). Ungar, a five-foot, 10 1/2 inch personal fitness trainer, admits that the only benefit of setting the record may be getting his name in the GW R books once docum enta tion is completed, but he is already contemplating other marks to break. "I'm just going to continue to maximize m y power potential un til m y body can't do it anymore," he says, mentioning that perhaps a backward-jumping record would be his next quest. -- Kevin Nagel Evan Ungar uses his left leg to jump 53 inches onto a platform, beating the old record of 39 inches. Once documented, the feat will be included in Guin ness World Records. | photo submitted Blue Devils happy with draw, but Santos delivers winner continued from p. 20 the bottom left corner of the net with his strike. The Blue Devils would have been happy to escape with a tie but they continued to press and were re warded. Mason James, a late sub, pressured the Toronto centre back, who attempted to clear the ball, but instead sent it right to Santos. With the Toronto keeper, who was trapped out of his net anticipating a pass from his teammate, last year' s under-21 Golden Boot winner (20 goals in 16 games) made no mistake. After a couple of quick touches, Santos slotted inside the left post for the winner. "To come on in that situation, I'm just glad the coach had confidence in m e," he said. Connor M cNamara got the Blue Devils off to a great start, opening the scoring in the fifth minute, but To ronto tied the game in the late stages of the half. Wilde said in order to be successful the Blue Devils will have to continue to get contributions throughout the lineup. "W e've gotten back to having a blend of experienced and new youth that has come through our U 21 pro gram ," Wilde said, "so we are really pleased with Matt Santos to come on late and score two goals to win us the game." The Blue Devils, who have won a pair since dropping the season opener, play in London today (Friday).
