That includes 706.3 kilometres of new infrastructure such as sidewalks, m ulti-use trails, paved shoulders, cycle lanes, buffered cycle lanes, signed bike routes and major off road trails. The additional infrastructure w ill com e about through 25 programs. It builds on the cycling and walking projects com pleted w ithin the last eight years and w ill continue to support active transportation as an alternative to com m uting, leisure and recreation. The financial strategy for the plan is headed to the Town' s capital forecast, 2018 D evelopm ent Charges Update Study and its annual operating budget forecast, and w ill seek funding opportunities at all levels of government. Staff w ill draw up the necessary Official Plan am endm ents to im plem ent the plan. The timing strategy includes a 10-year, and a 20-year plan. The estimated cost is approximately $45.8 million. The ATMP revision, detailed in a June 13 Engineering and Construction Department report, w ill also acknowledge past federal governm ent funding for cycling in Oakville. As well, a notice of study com pletion w ill be issued, possibly com m encing as early as July 20, to initiate a 30-day period for public review. Council heard a presentation from Chris Clapham, sustainable transportation program co-ordinator from the Town' s Engineering & Construction Department, and several delegates including Oakville North-Burlington MP Pam Damoff, former Town councillor and cycling advocate. "The ATMP update provided us an opportunity to (revise) the success of the 2009 plan, provide a continuous and connected network throughout the community, include performance targets and m onitoring tools, provide short- and long-term actions for infrastructure...," said Clapham. The 2017 ATMP update provided opportunities for residents, councillors and other interested parties to provide input including an online web-based survey (one for cycling and one for walking), an interactive map for com m ents, two public Information centres (June 2016 and October 2016) and a dedicated website for the study. Among the summary of key data received revealed 81 per cent of trips to work by Oakville residents are made by car and 67 per cent of residents surveyed travel less than 10 kilometres for work. Staff learned from the previous ATMP plan that active transportation is not easy to see Input on p.15 m o r e happen" BLAZER Dorval Cros Over <50 S°ops & Services located a SQEW & Dorval Drive Visit dorvalcrossing.com for more information PROUDLY MANAGED BY B entall Kennedy
