A large police presence descended on the Oakville shopping complex at around 9:30 a.m., following reports of a shooting. Officers found a 35-year-old man suffer ing from a gunshot wound. This individual was transported to hospi tal where he remains in critical condition. "It' s been overwhelming," said Katrina Sawicki, a receptionist with the Beauty Insti tute, which is located in the commercial pla za near the crime scene. "There must have been 50 police cruisers here." Sawicki said just prior to the shooting she saw two men in hoodies emerge from the forested area behind the commercial plaza. "They caught my eye because they had these hoodies up and it was so hot outside," she said. see Halton on p.3 Oakville Fire crews are visiting local parks/splash pads Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. to spread the fire prevention message in the new Sparky's Dog Days of Summer program. On Aug. 3, they were at Bronte Heritage Park and with the use of their aerial truck, turned the kids play area into a pop-up splash pad. This was the third week of the program with two visits still to occur at Valleyridge Park followed by Neyagawa Park. Here, Tyler Sanderson, 4, runs across the pop-up splash pad, as the aerial platform continues to spray water down onto the play surface.
