Husband and wife couple Charles Ketchabaw and Lisa Marie DiLiberto, of FIXT POINT Productions, created The Tale of a Town Canada . And for three years, they toured across the country in their storymobile (a recording booth on wheels) gathering stories about Canada's main street culture. The couple (with one, then two children) went to 200 communities in Canada, including Oakville, to create a series of multimedia exhibits that captured the collective memory of Canada's main streets and preserved local heritage one story at a time. Oakville's exhibit was on display at the Oakville Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre from Feb. 11 to 20. More than 100 people were interviewed locally to create the exhibit. The Tale of a Town Canada now comes to life in a stage performance in commemoration of Canada's 150th anniversary in 2017. "It's the first time we've presented this piece," says DiLiberto, who stars in the performance, which she co-created and co-directed with Ketchabaw. The stage performance is presentational, adds DiLiberto, who will be singing and dancing along with the 28-member My Pop Choir, ference in a community; and what local pride really means to Canadians. The Tale of a Town Canada is also a vehicle for public engagement, connecting people with their past during scheduled and impromptu interviews. The pair travelled to every province and territory in Canada during the making of The Tale of a Town Canada . "That's really exciting," she says. During the interview process, DiLiberto said several themes about Canada's main streets emerged: the importance of local newspapers, the presence of the railroad and significance of the main street general store. After the Oakville performance, The Tale of a Town Canada will be touring in 10 other places including Yellowknife, Medicine Hat and Fredericton. The Tale of a Town Canada comes back to the area for additional performances in Milton and Burlington. For more information visit http://thetaleofatown.com.
