The Bruins erased the records set a week earlier in their Ontario Colleges Athletic Association season opener when they routed the Seneca Sting 45-5 in their home opener last Sunday. That eclipsed the record 38 points they scored in the opener against Conestoga. Sheridan also broke week-old team records for most tries in a game (seven) and largest margin of victory. Matt DaCosta had a pair of tries for Sheridan, including one four minutes into the game to open the scoring. His second came on a 90-metre run after Sheridan turned away several Seneca scoring opportunities deep in Bruins' territory. Tristian Hylton and Andrew Zondona also had two tries each and Justin Tota added another. Owen Schimpl kicked four converts and Jad Hamade, one. Bruins head coach Rick Bria still sees room for improvement. "The first half was pretty much clinical, the boys ran our offence to a tee," he said. "We need to continue to have that killer instinct for 80 minutes, not for 40 or 50." After earning a tries-scored bonus point just twice in the team's first five years, Sheridan, 2-0, has now accomplished it in back-to-back weeks. Bruins face Conestoga Saturday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at the Trafalgar Road campus as part of Sheridan Homecoming. The Loyola Hawks will attempt to rebound from a 34-0 loss to the Assumption Crusaders last week when they host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish today (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m. in Halton Catholic Athletic Association senior football action. In other Week 1 results, Holy Trinity blanked Bishop Reding 47-0, Jean Vanier defeated Corpus Christi 31-17 and Notre Dame beat Christ the King 21-6. | photo by Graham Paine ­ Oakville Beaver Blades goalie records victory in OJHL debut Christian Purboo made 29 saves in his junior debut as the Oakville Blades beat the Milton IceHawks 6-1 last Friday in Ontario Junior Hockey League play. Mack Graham scored twice and Thomas Maia had three assists for Oakville. Milton had the only goal of the opening period but Graham scored in the opening minute of the second period. Andrew McIntrye then put the Blades ahead to stay 1:24 later. Graham added his second of the game before the end of the period. Teth Burles and Jacob Buch each scored their first Jr. A goals in the third and Zach Bramwell added another to round out the scoring. Matt Hayami had two assists for Oakville, 1-1-1 before a Tuesday game against Kingston in Buffalo. Purboo stopped all 21 shots he faced over the final two periods for the win. Oakville plays Aurora today (Thursday) in its second game of the Governor's Showcase in Buffalo. Oakville Soccer Club hands out eight scholarship awards For the eighth straight year, the Oakville Soccer Club presented scholarship awards to student athletes. The eight recipients were chosen based on contributions to the OSC as well as academic achievements and service to the community of Oakville. Ceremonies were held at the Glen Abbey Golf Course last month.
