"Council believes com m unity engagem ent is vital to our success in everything w e d o." In June, following extensive public consultation, Town council approved the amenities for a com m unity centre and endorsed a m aster plan for the lands that will see the developm ent of a residential district in the north, a civic district with a com m unity centre and park in the middle, and a seniorsoriented housing district in the south. Redevelopm ent of the lands is being rolled out in phases with the building of the com m unity centre and park as the first priority. These new facilities are scheduled to open in fall 2 0 2 0 . "Our goal is to design a com m unity centre that will com plem ent the neighbourhood' s distinct character," said Colleen Bell, com m issioner of C om m u n ity Services. "W e w ould like to hear from you about the conceptual designs because your input will help us create a centre that m eets the needs of all residents." This sum m er, the Town' s demolition con tractor mobilized on the site. The overall demolition of the form er hospital and rem ediation of the site is expected to take approxim ately 12 m onths. The redevelopm ent of the area is scheduled to begin in late 2 0 1 7 and take about three years. The open house will take place in Town Hall' s South A trium from 5 -7 p.m. Those w ho w ant to provide input into the com m unity centre' s preliminary conceptual designs can attend one of two consultation sessions being held in Town Hall' s Oakville and Trafalgar room s before and after the open house.
