D2 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER W ednesday, Novem ber 10, 1999 Blades salvage 4-4 tie with Burlington By Matt Nimmo SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER The Oakville Blades battled back all night, and it paid off as they tied rivals the Burlington Cougars 4-4 Sunday night in Provincial Junior A hockey. The Blades would not give up all night, as they found themselves behind the Cougars for most of the game. The game was very physical, with crunching open-ice checks and hard hits into the boards. The contest proved very rough as the winner would truly deserve it. Although the game only consisted of 20 total minutes in penalties, it did not lack in aggressiveness. The refer ee, with the game being so close, let the teams play rather than letting the man-advantage decide the game. Burlington got off to a 2-0 lead after the first period off short-handed and power-play goals. Both goalies kept their teams in the game with great saves. The score could have been much different than 2-0. The Cougars increased their lead to three with approximately three min utes left in the second period. Oakville, though, did not lie down as they scored two goals 23 seconds apart, in the last minute of the second period. Mike Lukajic scored on a slapshot off a face-off. Chris Knighton capital ized on a giveaway in the neutral zone, and went up top with his shot on (S ee Blades' page D3) Photo by Peter C. McCusker Something has sure caught the attention of these players. The Oakville Blades hosted the Burlington Cougars in provincial junior A hockey action on Sunday with the two teams fighting to a 4-4 draw. The Blades players, here (in white jerseys) are Mike Tarantino and Mike Lukajic (#16). OakviWe Used Car TO RUN O N THIS PAGE CALL NO W !
