Oakville Town Hall will shine purple throughout much of the month in recognition of November as Woman Abuse Prevention Month. The purple lighting is part of the Halton W omen' s Place fourth annual Shine the Light on Woman Abuse Campaign, which will also see the charity group ask local businesses to turn purple for November. Purple is a symbol of courage, survival and honour, and has come to symbolize the fight to end woman abuse. Halton Women' s Place representatives say the goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of violence against women and to stand in solidarity with abused women and support them in understanding that any shame and/or blame they may feel does not belong to them. Across the Region, Halton W omen' s Place is asking local businesses, schools, churches, apartments and homes to get involved. Halton Women's Place purple flags will be raised in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills in early November. Burlington City Hall and the pier will be lit purple Nov f5-29. Oakville Town Hall will be lit purple Nov. f-24. This year local businesses interested in supporting the Shine the Light campaign will also be able to contribute to a Virtual Grab Bag, which has been created by the Halton W omen' s Place, The virtual bag is intended to highlight the campaign further by ollering downloadable gift cards and coupons offering special deals tor the month of November.
