"W hat we have done mostly is buy them painted and then adjust them to represent all the different ethnicities, because we do want to show the multicultural diversity of Canada." Little community stories can also be seen if visitors look closely enough. In miniature Stratford, a large group of peo ple are by the water, many wearing swan hats. A group of swans is also present. Brenninkmeijer noted this event (the Annu al Swan Parade Celebration) is something that actually happens in Stratford every spring, when the community gathers and escorts a group of swans from the barn they are housed in over the winter to the Avon River. With the construction of miniature Ottawa now well underway, Brenninkmeijer is now thinking about the next projects, which will include miniature Niagara Falls and miniature Quebec City. Plans have yet to be ironed out for a sixth project, however Brenninkmeijer says it may be Montreal. The Oakville man is hoping to open his creation to the public at a Toronto location in 2019. The Toronto facility would not only fea ture the miniature cities, but also a gift shop, model area where people can see future model cities being assembled, a restaurant, and a 3D scanning centre. F o r a fee the scanning centre would allow visitors to be scanned, recreated as a miniature figure and then added to one of the miniature cities. Visitors could also take their miniature selves home if they prefer. While the attraction would open with the six model cities, Brenninkmeijer emphasizes it would continue to grow after that with the hope that the whole country would eventually be captured by this miniature world. "This is not a hobby or a pet project. This can be a very successful long-term business," said Brenninkmeijer. "Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, they had 1.3 million visitors last year. They are the number one thing to do in Germany on tripadvisor." Brenninkmeijer said he is continuing to look for investors for his project, both large and small.
